An Obstetrician is a specially qualified doctor that cares for women’s health. Obstetricians specialise in the field of childbirth, pregnancy and reproductive health. Obstetricians care for women before, during and after their childbirth.

They also perform reproductive health checks and surgical procedures (such as caesarean sections, hysterectomy and more). Obstetricians have the training and skill set to manage high risk and complicated births and pregnancies.

Accommodation

You will be transferred to the Maternity Facility in the hours following the birth of your child, for your private stay. You will be roomed with your baby during your stay with us, unless there are special care requirements for your child. In the event that special care is needed, your child will be cared for, close by, in our Special Care Nursery.

The friendly clinic staff will provide assistance with all of the practical aspects of caring for your newborn baby. The duration of your stay will be determined based on your needs after giving birth. Three to four nights is an average stay for a straight forward birth with no complications or special requirements. The length of your stay will depend on the health of both you and your baby.

When choosing Dr John as your Obstetrician at Mitcham Private Hospital, you will be cared for in our recently refurbished rooms. These rooms include ensuites, flat screen TV’s, free to air and Foxtel TV stations, mini bar fridge, Wireless internet access and a phone for your usage. The rooms at Mitcham Private Hospital have been furnished to provide a superior level of luxury and comfort for you, your baby and your partner during your time staying with us.

Catering

Mitcham Private Hospital provides an exceptionally high standard catering service on a daily basis. We provide an a la carte lunch menu for Maternity patients, which is prepared by or in house chef, using high quality and fresh produce. You can choose the times that your meals are delivered to fit in with you and your new born baby. We can also cater for special dietary requirements where needed. If you have special dietary requirements, please inform the hospital on your registration forms, so we are able to ensure we can cater for your needs.

Visitors

Friends and family are welcome to come and visit you in the maternity ward during the designated visitor hours. We ask all guests to be considerate to new mothers and their babies. The Maternity ward is closed to visitors (except your partner) from 1pm to 3pm to allow new mother quiet time and time for rest. Partners are allowed to visit at any time. PARTNERS

Mitcham Private Hospital welcomes partners for overnight stay whilst you are a patient at the hospital. Emotional and physical support is very important after giving birth to your child and we belive that having your loved one there to support you during this time is highly beneficial to you and your new born baby. Some of the private rooms provide double beds for partners to stay with you. (this service is available when an appropriate room is allocated, subject to availability.)
